Obessive Gamer Sent To Mental Hospital
On Sunday, one of our newspapers in SIngapore.I saw the front page...Obessive Gamer Sent To Mental Hospital.I read it and was like ok..This boy was found sitting on the edge of a window..blah blah....The family says he hears voices and strange sounds in his head which only can be heard whrn he's at home. He's always thinking of the games he's playing 24/7.Our newspaper lablled Guild Wars,Counter Strike
"violent" and thise are the games that he plays. They even show pitures of guildwars..they making gw as if it is dangerous..but its fanatasy violence.u might as well say cartoons are violent.Oh btw he's 14.

It is not the games that makes one unstable, but is viewed by many media outlets as such. This person was already unstable before he started playing obviously. In such a state of mind it would be easy for a mentally disturbed person to blur the lines between what is fantasy and what is real.
To the media, parents, and policy makers: Do not ever blame the ills of a person on the games that one plays. Instead find what is the cause of such an illness and treat it.

czymann is ironicly full of smartness,
but I fully agree, and yet i have hardly anything to add to this stimulating thread, while it may be disturbing to play games like counter strike and GW always remember puberty is worse ...... always.

Yes, it does.
There's just something about voices and sitting out by the window with your legs dangling out..

looks to me like he's just a basketcase to begin with, his problem was just exacerbated through extensive gaming, otherwise you'll be getting many more cases of WoW/GW players or some other MMORPG player developing similar mental illnesses

Looks to me like he was already mentally unstable and video games were his outlet. If he wouldn't have had acces to a PC, he would have simply become obsessed with something else.
Media nowadays really like to make out gaming is the big evil of this century, but the truth is that life isn't that simple, you can't blame gaming for everything
I'm glad to read his family got him help before he did anything to harm himself.
